Vintage Style Glass Fishing Float
These vintage style, glass fishing floats come in a beautiful sea green colour with a genuine rope decoration.
Weighing in at nearly three kilos each, the thick heavy glass globes also make useful door stops. They look great hung from a beam or left lying nonchalantly around the seaside inspired home.
Glass fishing floats buoys were first used in Norway around 1840; the nets sometimes up to 50 miles long were set adrift and supported near the surface by the hollow glass balls containing air to give them buoyancy.
By the 1940s, glass had mostly replaced wood and cork throughout much of the world. Sadly plastic and Styrofoam have taken over nowadays, although considerably more practical they’re not nearly as attractive.
