Two Brons Sails – Original Painting

Description

This colourful original mixed media painting by artist David Raine is entitled ‘Two Brons Sails’ and depicts a parade of sail in Douarnenez, Brittany.

The prestigious maritime festival draws participants from all corners of the globe, showcasing a diverse array of traditional sailing vessels against a backdrop of sparkling turquoise waters.

19th Century sailing ships often featured sails tinted in reddish/brown hues. The shade was the result of a sealing treatment of tar or resin which was applied to protect the heavy cotton sails from the ravages of wind driven salt water.

Back in the 90’s David took part in the parade himself aboard the 153-foot barque named Kaskelot, creating inspiration for his "Boats" series.

Through his unique artistic style, David skilfully conveys the energy, excitement, and sheer awe of sailing. To him, it is a magical experience unlike any other.

With a lifetime of sailing experience, from Arab dhows to square rigged brigantines and barques, he has mastered the art of capturing the essence of these majestic vessels.

From braving gale-force winds while reefed and hard braced, to peacefully gliding through calm waters at twilight, David's paintings beautifully depict the adrenaline-pumping and contemplative aspects of sailing.

This original mixed media art work is painted in acrylics on canvas, the work is unframed, but is ready to hang.
