Two Blue Whales - Wall Hanging
Elegantly realised this metal wall hanging of two blue whales makes a wonderful display with their distinctive tails raised.
The whales are staggered away from one another to give a 3 dimensional effect.
The item is made from tin with a galvanised finish that creates an interesting patina on the surface.
The light are dark patches shown in the images are intended to give a rustic feel, occasionally when the galvanisation hasn’t taken hold small spots of rust may form, adding to the products unique charm.
Blue whales are the largest animals ever to have lived on Earth. These magnificent marine mammals are almost 30 meters in length (that’s about 100 feet) and can weigh up to 180 metric tons.
They live on a diet of tiny shrimp like animals called krill. At certain times of the year a single adult can consume about 3.6 metric tons of krill a day.
Although Blue whales look blue underwater, on the surface their colouring is closer to a grey blue.
Somewhere between 10 and 25 thousand blue whales are believed to still swim the world's oceans. Unfortunately due to excessive hunting in the 1900s by whalers they were almost brought to the brink of extinction.
Since they came under protection in 1966 they have only managed a small recovery and are still classified as an endangered species.
Simple, elegant decoration.
