The Solent - 3 Driftwood Sailboats
These charming driftwood sailboats feature sails made from re-purposed pieces of genuine nautical chart.
Cleverly handmade by Rachel White, this particular set of three boats uses maps concentrated upon the Solent and Isle of Wight and Hampshire coast area.
The maps were originally used onboard for navigation on voyages around the British Isles. You can almost hear the whoosh and flapping of sails and the tinkling sound of spinnakers on mast.
The sailboats vary in size due to the natural materials used and the sails may have handwritten annotations from actual voyages plotted on the charts.
Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist living in Weymouth with her husband, a retired seaman, just a mile from the sea.
Made in her workshop studio, she sources her materials from local beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast.
She has exhibited and worked with driftwood since 2011 and most recently her work with ghost net and beach found plastics has been exhibited at the 2019 ADEX Ocean Expo in Singapore and in current Mood magazine, Asia, headlining the feature ‘Trash to Treasure’ (March 2019).
Designed for indoor display only.
Sold as a set of three, they make a charming focal point for any coastal inspired home.
