Spindle Tibia Shell

Description

Highly sought after by shell collectors, the Spindle Tibia (tibia fusus) is also commonly known as a Shinbone Tibia.

The species is part of the Strombidae family of shells, though they are structurally quite different from the true conch.

As a species of large marine gastropod mollusc, the shells shape is most notable for its slender elongated needle like siphonal canal.

Colour ranges from straw yellow to reddish beige, whilst the aperture is white with finger like ridges on its outer lip.

Preferring tropical deep waters the species can be found from the Indian Ocean, east to Indonesia and Australia.
