Snowballs and Swims, Margate – painting

This rather fun painting by Nick Kelly depicts families having fun and throwing snowballs, while hardy swimmers take to the icy waters on Margate beach.

Margate is a seaside town located on the north coast of Kent, although it’s been a few years since the beach was covered in snow and the shallow waters began to freeze, it was a fun piece to create says Nick, I thoroughly enjoyed painting the happy sunny scene.

Growing up in Whitstable Nick’s always had a fondness for the sea, developing his artistic style.

Many years were spent travelling and working in the Middle East, but in later years he settled back in Whitstable where he now paints and writes. 

Nick has a particular love of figures placed in a landscape. ‘I’m interested in the relationship between humans and the environment, from the single walker enjoying peace and tranquillity to the mass of people gathering on the beach on a warm summer day.’

His work can also been seen at galleries in Whitstable, Westgate and Margate. 

This original painting is painted in acrylic and is framed and ready to hang.
