Description
The Snipe’s Bill Murex Shell has a very long uniquely shaped siphonal canal.
It has a rounded body with a pattern of spirals and a low spire to the end of the shell.
Due to the close resemblance in shape, it’s said to have been named after the wading birds bill of the same name.
The shell has a cream base colour with brown markings on the raised surface areas. The opening is soft pink in colour.
Belonging to a very large family of molluscs numbering in excess of 1000 species, the Snipe’s Bill (haustellum haustellum linne) is a species of large predatory sea snail in the family of Muricidae shells.
Found on rocks in shallow water, the species is common among the waters of the Indo Pacific.
Sold individually.
Size: approx 10-12 cm long
