Seagull Fish - Wall Art Hanging

The Seagull Fish takes its name from one of the relief designs within this highly original driftwood fish wall hanging by Laurence Henry.

Created using driftwood and an array of carefully assembled reclaimed materials, the fish is full of fascinating detail.

The beautifully crafted piece includes an intricate relief design incorporating a Seagull, a little white heart and a little blue fish and is beautifully finished with an expressive copper stud eye.

Finally the piece hangs from a fish lure made from encrusted coloured wooden, glass and stone beads.

The layers of sculptural relief and found objects create a striking patchwork of pattern and texture, while the warm weathered palette of soft coastal blues and sandy tones evoking the colours of the shoreline.

Laurence Henry worked as a freelance artist for Liberty, Parker Knoll, Habitat and Gallery Five, before joining the BBC as a graphic designer, creating illustrations for much-loved programmes including Play School and Jackanory.

Since taking early retirement he has devoted himself to his own artistic practice, producing distinctive mixed-media works that are exhibited in galleries throughout the UK.
