Scarlet Mitre Shell

The Scarlet Mitre shell has a deep orange coloured body with spiralling white bands circling its length.

This pretty shell has fine spiral grooves and elongated ribs along its body leading to a narrow opening.

Mitre shells belong to a large group of several hundred species which are split into numerous genders to account for both the animal and the shell variations, they enjoy worldwide distribution.

The scarlet mitre (vexillum coccineum) is a common species in the waters of Taiwan and the China sea.

Size: approx 6-7 cm long
