Sailing Fish – Driftwood Art Hanging

The Sailing Fish Art Hanging takes its name from part of the relief design on this highly original double sided driftwood fish by Laurence Henry.

Full of fascinating detail, this abstract fish sculpture features a double-sided design, each face showcasing intricate texture and pattern. One side features a sailing ship, while the reverse reveals a striking encrusted fish head with an expressive copper stud eye and beautifully patinated blue-green copper tail.

Sure to find a home on any wall, the fish could also be suspended from a thread displaying both sides at once while gently spinning.

Finally the piece hangs from a fish lure made from encrusted coloured wooden beads.

The layers of sculptural relief and found objects create a striking patchwork of pattern and texture, while the warm weathered palette of soft sandy tones evokes the colours of the coast.

Laurence Henry worked as a freelance artist for Liberty, Parker Knoll, Habitat and Gallery Five, before joining the BBC as a graphic designer, creating illustrations for much-loved programmes including Play School and Jackanory.

Since taking early retirement he has devoted himself to his own artistic practice, producing distinctive mixed-media works that are exhibited in galleries throughout the UK.
