Rollercoaster Big Waves - Fine Art Print

The waves on Chesil Beach in Dorset are deep and spectacular as they crash against the steep bank of shingle. The joy of watching these huge waves roll in over and over again is conveyed in this fine art print entitled ‘Rollercoaster Big Waves by artist Nel Whatmore.

Nel paints a variety of subject matter but loves the sea as every holiday as a child included a boat of some sort, as her Dadwas a keen sailor. She works in pastels or oils and has travelled all over the UK, to paint the coast. 

She did a series of paintings along the Dorset coast including several at Lyme Regis.

Nel has captured that irresistible feeling of standing on the shore watching the waves gather momentum, only to be replaced by another as the cycle begins again. There is something wonderfully exhilarating about the endless movement of the sea, and this print conveys that feeling perfectly.

Taken from one of Nel’s original pastel paintings,  it combines her love of the sea with her wonderful ability to capture movement, light and colour. The layers of pastel create a rich, atmospheric quality, while the sweeping waves give the artwork a real sense of energy and depth.

Nel’s fascination with the sea began during childhood, when family holidays almost always involved a boat of some description. Her father was a keen sailor, and this early connection with the coast has remained a strong influence throughout her artistic career.

A Yorkshire-based artist, Nel has been painting professionally for over 40 years and works predominantly in pastels and oils. She has travelled extensively around the UK in search of inspiration, painting coastlines from the far north of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides to Cornwall and the south coast of England.

Nel created a series of paintings along the Dorset coast, including several inspired by the beautiful and historic seaside town of Lyme Regis, capturing the changing moods and character of this particularly dramatic stretch of coastline.
