Puffin Carving small
£14.95
Description
An unmistakable bird with its brightly coloured bill, orange legs and red-black eyes, the puffin is one of the world’s favourite birds.
This charming and quite delightful hand carving displays the puffin upon a natural wooden block.
The Puffin spends its life at sea fishing for sand eels. It comes ashore to breed in the spring on grass-topped cliffs, preferring old rabbit burrows.
Its colourful bill fades after the breeding season. The new chicks “jump-fly” and scramble by night down from the cliffs on which they have been bred.
Each bird has been skilfully hand carved by village craftsmen on the island of Bali in Indonesia.
They are produced under fair trading conditions to benefit the village community as well as the producer and have been painted using lead free paints and local replaceable softwood.
Individually hand-made each puffin has a unique character of its own.
