Mini Pearlised Top Shells

These beautiful polished mini top shells reveal an amazing array of shimmering, iridescent colours once their outer layers have been carefully removed and polished.

Their distinctive conical shape, combined with their pearlescent exterior, makes them particularly attractive for coastal displays, crafts and decorative projects.

Top shells belong to the large Trochidae family, which includes hundreds of species found in oceans around the world. Most species are herbivores, grazing on algae and other marine vegetation, although some feed on sponges and other organisms.

The inside of the shell is also nacreous, or mother-of-pearl, producing the beautiful lustrous appearance for which these shells are prized. Some of the larger species have traditionally been used in the mother-of-pearl trade.
