Milliaris Cowrie Shell – pack of 3

In Latin ‘milliaris’ means a thousand of something, which might perhaps be a slight exaggeration when describing the multidude of tiny white spots that cover the surface of these pretty cowrie shells.

Cowrie seashells are often prized and admired by collectors for their smooth, glossy, porcelain-like appearance and colourful patterns.

The surface of these naturally shiny shells is smooth to the touch, whilst the underside reveals a long ridged aperture of alternating colour.

Cowrie or cowry is the common name given to the family of Cypraeidae of marine gastropod molluscs, or sea snails and their shells.

The Milliaris Cowrie (cypraea milliaris) are acommon species to the Western central Pacific, particularly the Philippines, where they are found in shallow waters on sand among sea grass and coral reefs.
