Mermaids Tail - Green Gold
This unique green and pale gold Mermaids Tail has been carefully made by Rachel White using a blend of new and recycled ghost nets salvaged from our beaches.
Ghost nets are the abandoned fishing nets washed upon our shores. They are gathered and salvaged on beachcombing walks, de-tangled, washed, dried, sorted and finally assembled into original designs.
Interwoven in the top section of the tail are some small coloured shore-found fishing lure beads.
Some of these beads are UV-reactive and will fluoresce under an ultraviolet light.
Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist living in Weymouth with her husband, a retired seaman, just a mile from the sea.
Made in her workshop studio, she sources her materials from local beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast of West Dorset, England.
She has exhibited and worked with driftwood since 2011. Her work with ghost nets and beach found plastics was exhibited at the 2019 ADEX Ocean Expo in Singapore and also featured in CurrentMood Magazine, Asia, headlining the feature ‘Trash to Treasure’, more recently her work was shown in the December issue of the US magazine 'Beach Combing'.
Rachel will be making a 10% donation to the Marine Conservation Society on the sale of this item.
