Marble Cone Shell
Marble cones shells with their distinctive marking have always been popular with collectors.
Cone shells are a very successful, predatory sea marine gastropod that feed on worms, molluscs and fish.
They have a highly developed system by which they are able to inject poison into their prey prior to feeding.
Marble Cone shells (conus marmoreus) belong to a large family named Conidae and number over 600 species; they are possibly the most popular collector group after cowrie shells.
This species is common among the shallow waters of the Indo Pacific Ocean.
