Line Squall – Art Print
Experience the raw power of the English Channel in this dramatic maritime art print by David Raine entitled ‘Line Squall’.
It captures the exact moment a fierce squall struck the Danish-built brigantine ‘Soren Larsen’ off the coast of Lyme Regis, with the dark silhouette of the Jurassic Coast looming in the distance.
Aboard the 112-foot, two-masted vessel, short-handed and deep into a cold March voyage from Essex to Gloucester, the crew was preparing for nightfall when radar revealed a fast approaching squall. With sails eased and the ship bearing off, the storm hit with ferocity.
Windward, the sky turned black and the sea erupted. David was at the helm as the engineer seized control and the skipper joined him in battling the thrashing canvas sails.
This print evokes the tension and beauty of that moment.
David’s love affair with the coast and sea developed from early childhood; with salt in his blood, it’s a theme that courses through much of his work.
