Japanese Bonnet Shells have a pretty gingham like patterned surface of light brown dashes over a creamy off white base colour.
Bonnet Shells belong to the large Cassidae family of very solid, often thickened shells found in shallow tropical seas where they enjoy feeding on sea urchins and sand dollars.
This species (phalium areola bisulcatum) is a common shell among the waters of the Indo Pacific.
