I Have Heard the Mermaid Sing

Description

Simply named ‘I Have Heard the Mermaid Sing’ this charming shell design by Kim Lynch has been inspired by traditional scrimshaw sailors' art.

For some, the mermaid signifies both life and fertility, whilst for others, she has been responsible for luring sailors to their deaths and serving as an omen for disaster.

This beautiful Mermaid on the other hand would make a fantastic gift for any lover of the coast or sea.

The daughter of successful painter Kim began drawing at an early age, using her eye for detailed line-work in an unusual way.

At 14 she entered a competition sponsored by Habitat for the best painting on an egg and won first prize. Her decorated goose eggs went on to be shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum and Kim was commissioned to paint eggs for both Harrods and Liberty’s of London.

After a career in Graphic Design in 2002 she moved from London to St Ives, Cornwall.

Kim started to draw on Cornish scallop shells in 2013 and her maritime themed designs have proved enormously popular.

Requiring great attention to detail and painstaking skill, Kim draws directly onto the shell surface using permanent ink with an old fashioned dip-pen, without any preparatory pencil sketch.

Each shell is hand drawn and unique and is framed behind glass in bespoke frames hand-made for her in Cornwall.

Buying a Kim Lynch gift ensures you will have something genuinely unique, lovingly made and authentically Cornish!

Framed Size: 16 x 4.5 x 16 cm
