Horse Conch Shell - Large
With a soft creamy white colouring that gives way to a rich peachy orange around its aperture, the Horse Conch Shell is a species of extremely large predatory sea snail that lives in warm tropical waters.
This giant is one of the largest species in United States waters and one of the largest shells in the world and popular among collectors due to its great size.
These stunning shells would make a wonderful focal point in any home.
Horse Conchs are common in shallow coastal waters from North Carolina to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The thick and sturdy shell of this snail was an important commodity and was fashioned into a variety of tools by Native Americans in what is now the South-Eastern U.S. and Mexico.
Also known as the ‘Florida Horse Conch’ it’s been Florida's official state shell since 1969 and can grow up to twenty-four inches in length.
As a natural specimen it will have acquired certain marks and imperfections during its lifetime and these should be considered perfectly normal and very much part of the individual charm and character for a special shell of this size.
