Great Green Turban Shell - large
The Great Green Turban Shell is certainly a distinctive species with its unique green colour and white-brown marbling and would make a striking addition to any collection on size alone.
Just below the surface of the shell lies a rich layer of mother-of-pearl which is highly prized for its beauty and durability. It is used to make jewellery, buttons, inlays, and other decorative objects. It is also used in some musical instruments, such as guitars and mandolins.
The species is found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific region, from South Africa to Japan. It is an herbivorous snail that feeds on algae and plant debris.
The Great Green Turban (turbo marmoratus) is also known as a Marbled Turban and belongs to the Turbininae family of some several hundred species.
As a natural product, it will have acquired some minor flaws and blemishes as part of its unique character and charm. Just like us, these have lived a life and their imperfections tell a story.
As this makes each shell quite unique, the photographs shown are of the actual item to be supplied.
