Four Figures, Low Tide - painting
The four figures of the title are more abstract than purely figurative, becoming part of the environment in which they are placed in this original painting by Nick Kelly.
In ‘Four Figures, Low Tide’ Nick aims to show the harmony between us as humans and the sea. They could be wild swimmers taking their daily dip or a family testing the waters on a weekend away. Perhaps it also suggests we have to look after our fragile seashore.
“I love walking along the beach early in the morning and very often on a misty gentle morning there are scenes like this”.
The painting is typical of Nick’s work. Growing up in Whitstable he always had a fondness for the sea, developing his artistic style.
Many years were spent travelling and working in the Middle East, but in later years he settled back in Whitstable where he now paints and writes.
Nick has a particular love of figures placed in a landscape. ‘I’m interested in the relationship between humans and the environment, from the single walker enjoying peace and tranquillity to the mass of people gathering on the beach on a warm summer day.’
His work is also shown in galleries in Whitstable, Westgate and Margate.
This original work is painted in acrylic on a 4 cm deep canvas, the work is unframed, but is ready to hang.
