Egg Cowrie Shell
£1.65
Description
Bright white in colour with the occasional brown mark on its glossy porcelain like surface, Egg Cowrie shells are smooth and tactile to the touch, nestling comfortably within the palm.
Although displaying a shape not dissimilar to true cowries, the egg cowrie (ovula ovum) belongs to a moderately sized group of allied or false cowries called the Ovulidae.
The main difference between the species is the general lack of markings. Either way Cowries in all of their forms are probably the most collected of all shells and attract a lot of interest.
This common shell comes from Indo Pacific waters.
