Driftwood Seahorse Wall Hanging

Seahorses are such whimsical creatures and this elegant driftwood wall hanging creation is no exception.

Each piece of driftwood, its inherent colour, texture and shape is painstakingly selected, twisted, turned and eventually placed to create a seahorse that will become an enchanting focal point for any space to evoke fond memories of the coast.

The extraordinary seahorse, clad in a suit of bony armour and spiky ridges, glides upright through the water propelled by its prominent dorsal fin. These elusive creatures often seek refuge among sea grass and seaweed, gripping the foliage with their curled tails.

Perhaps the strangest trait in its already peculiar repertoire is its approach to parenting, it's the male who bears the burden of child-rearing. He carries the fertilised eggs tucked safely within a special pouch, nurturing them until they hatch and sheltering the tiny offspring until they are ready to face the ocean on their own.

In 2006, sightings of seahorses surged off England's south-western shores, a rise attributed to warming sea temperatures. Remarkably, these curious beings have even been spotted as far north as the Shetland Islands.

Although each driftwood seahorse follows the same design, there will be variations due to the individual nature of the driftwood used to produce it.
