Driftwood Sailboats– Set of Three
Naturally boat-shaped pieces of driftwood form the shape of each hull in this set of three sailboats by Rachel White.
You can almost hear the whoosh and flapping of sails and the tinkling sound of spinnakers on mast with this simple driftwood idea.
Handmade by Rachel, the base of each sailboat is formed from a natural piece of driftwood, whilst the sails are made from re-purposed pieces of genuine nautical chart once used onboard for navigation on voyages around the British Isles.
Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist living in Weymouth with her husband, a retired seaman, just a mile from the sea.
Made in her workshop studio, she sources her materials from local beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast.
She has exhibited and worked with driftwood since 2011 and most recently her work with ghost net and beach found plastics has been exhibited at the 2019 ADEX Ocean Expo in Singapore and in CurrentMood magazine, Asia, headlining the feature ‘Trash to Treasure’ (March 2019).
Designed for indoor display only.
The sailboats vary in size due to the natural materials used and the sails may have handwritten annotations from actual voyages plotted on the charts.
Sold as a set of three, as per images, they make a charming focal point for any coastal inspired home.
