Driftwood Sailboat - Weymouth

This delightful driftwood sailboat features a graceful sail crafted from an upcycled vintage nautical chart, mounted on a beautifully weathered driftwood plinth. Individually handmade by Rachel White, each sailboat is completely unique, with its own character and combination of natural materials.

This particular sailboat features a vintage chart depicting the waters around Weymouth, Dorset, making it a particularly fitting piece for anyone with a fondness for this beautiful stretch of the Dorset coast.

The original chart may still bear handwritten navigational notes and pencil marks from voyages of the past, adding an authentic connection to Britain's rich maritime heritage. Once used for navigation around our coastline, these well-travelled charts are now given a new lease of life as distinctive pieces of coastal art.

You can almost imagine the gentle whoosh of the wind filling the sail, the soft flap of canvas and the tinkling of rigging as a little sailing boat makes its way out from Weymouth Harbour.

Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist based in Weymouth, Dorset, where she lives just a mile from the sea with her husband, a retired seaman. She handcrafts each piece in her workshop using driftwood and beachcombed treasures collected from the beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast.

Her artwork is regularly exhibited in galleries across the South West, and one of her distinctive driftwood creations was recently selected to feature on the kitchen set of Ainsley's Good Mood Food on television.
