Driftwood Sailboat - Sunderland, Seaham
This delightful driftwood sailboat features a sail made from re-purposed nautical charts.
Cleverly handmade by Rachel White, this particular sailboat uses a map featuring the waters around Sunderland, Seaham and Whitburn Bay.
The sail may have handwritten annotations from actual voyages plotted on the chart and would have been originally used onboard for navigation on voyages around the British Isles. You can almost hear the whoosh and flapping of sails and the tinkling sound of spinnakers on mast.
Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist living in Weymouth with her husband, a retired seaman, just a mile from the sea.
Made in her workshop studio, she sources her materials from local beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast.
Rachel’s art work in is regularly exhibited in galleries around the southwest. Recently one of her amazing pieces was chosen to decorate the kitchen set of ‘Ainsley’s Good Mood Food' on TV.
Designed for indoor display only.
