Driftwood Sailboat - Plymouth and Dartmouth

This charming driftwood sailboat features a graceful sail crafted from an upcycled vintage nautical chart, mounted on a beautifully weathered driftwood plinth. Each piece is individually handmade by Rachel White, making every sailboat completely unique.

This particular design showcases the waters around Plymouth and Dartmouth, Devon. The original chart may still bear handwritten navigational notes and pencil marks from real voyages, adding an authentic connection to Britain's rich maritime heritage. Once used aboard working vessels to navigate the coastline, these charts are given a new life as coastal art.

You can almost imagine the gentle whoosh of the wind filling the sail, the soft flap of canvas, and the familiar tinkling of rigging in a quiet harbour.

Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist based in Weymouth, Dorset, where she lives just a mile from the sea with her husband, a retired seaman. She handcrafts each piece in her workshop using driftwood and beachcombed treasures collected from the beaches and bays of the Jurassic Coast.

Her work is regularly exhibited in galleries across the South West, and one of her distinctive driftwood creations was recently selected to feature in the kitchen set of Ainsley's Good Mood Food on television.
