Driftwood Humpback Whale
This fantastic driftwood whale wall hanging was designed and handmade on the Jurassic Coast of West Dorset, England by driftwood artist Rachel White.
Intricately interwoven pieces of naturally textured driftwood and tiny shoreline treasures are cleverly fashioned into this lovely example of a Humpback Whale.
Rachel is a driftwood and strandline artist living in Weymouth with her husband, a retired seaman, just a mile from the sea.
Made in her workshop studio, she sources her materials from local beaches and bays along the Jurassic Coast of West Dorset, England.
Her creations use only natural ‘as found’ driftwood pieces - in other words driftwood which has not been shaped or altered in any way.
She has exhibited and worked with driftwood since 2011. Her work with ghost nets and beach found plastics was exhibited at the 2019 ADEX Ocean Expo in Singapore and also featured in Mood Magazine, Asia, headlining the feature ‘Trash to Treasure’, more recently her work was shown in the December issue of the US magazine 'Beach Combing'.
Rachel’s signature driftwood artwork often includes tiny interwoven found objects to add interest to her pieces, such as sea glass, small shells and on occasion finds such as beach pottery fragments, fossils or beach metal.
The images show the actual item to be dispatched. Each piece is signed by the artist, stamped and numbered, and ready to hang on your wall.
Designed for indoor display only.
The whale also bears a handwritten tag describing its Jurassic Coastal provenance.
