Don't Wait for Your Ship to Come In
The well know quote “Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it” has been beautifully interpreted by Kim Lynch on a Cornish Scallop shell.
Each shell is individually hand drawn and unique.
These delightful gifts require great attention to detail and painstaking skill as Kim draws directly onto the shells surface (without any preparatory pencil sketch) using permanent ink and an old fashioned dip-pen.
The daughter of successful painter Kim began drawing at an early age, using her eye for detailed line-work in an unusual way.
At 14 she entered a competition sponsored by Habitat for the best painting on an egg and won first prize. Her decorated goose eggs went on to be shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum and Kim was commissioned to paint eggs for both Harrods and Liberty’s of London.
After a career in Graphic Design in 2002 she moved from London to St Ives, Cornwall.
This connection with the sea has inspired her shell work, which is based on traditional sailors' art and is a modern interpretation of scrimshaw.
Kim started to draw on Cornish scallop shells in 2013 and her maritime themed designs have proved enormously popular.
Each shell is framed behind glass in a bespoke frame hand-made in Cornwall.
Buying a Kim Lynch gift ensures you will have something genuinely unique, lovingly made and authentically Cornish!
