Deer Cowrie Shell

No points for guessing how this shell acquired its name.

Cowries in all of their forms are probably the most collected of all shell species. The beauty of colour and pattern along with their smooth porcelain like finish has always attracted interest.

The Deer Cowrie (lyncina vitellus) with its white spot markings is common to Indo-Pacific area and can be found in shallow waters around coral reefs and rocks.
