Cornish Fish Harbour - Wall Art Hanging

This highly original driftwood fish wall hanging by Laurence Henry is a beautifully crafted piece of coastal art, inspired by Cornwall's rich maritime heritage.

The intricate relief design incorporates a charming fishing scene, complete with fishing boats, a lighthouse, soaring seagull, fish and even a traditional Cornish tin mine, all brought together in a wonderfully textured composition.

Created using driftwood and an array of carefully assembled reclaimed materials, the fish is full of fascinating detail.

Layers of sculptural relief and found objects create a striking patchwork of pattern and texture, while a warm weathered palette of soft coastal blues and sandy tones evokes the colours of the Cornish shoreline.

A copper stud forms the fish's expressive eye, complemented by decorative copper spiral details and a beautifully patinated blue-green copper tail, giving the piece additional character and depth. Finally the pieces hangs from a fish lure made from copper and coloured wooden beads.

Laurence Henry worked as a freelance artist for Liberty, Parker Knoll, Habitat and Gallery Five, before joining the BBC as a graphic designer, creating illustrations for much-loved programmes including Play School and Jackanory.

Since taking early retirement he has devoted himself to his own artistic practice, producing distinctive mixed-media works that are exhibited in galleries throughout the UK.
