Black Spotted Triton Shell
The Black Spotted Triton is a beautifully sculpted sea snail belongs to the family Cymatiidae and is admired worldwide for its bold markings.
The shells structure is solid and is typically light to golden brown in colour, decorated with irregular black or dark brown spots and blotches giving it a dramatic appearance and which provide the species with its common name.
Highly valued among shell collectors, each specimen is unique in its spotting pattern and overall colouration.
The species is also known by the name ‘Washing Bath Triton’ whilst its Latin name is ‘Lotoria Lotoria’.
Like other members of the Cymatiidae family the species is carnivorous, preying primarily on sea cucumbers and starfish.
This species is widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and western Pacific islands. It inhabits shallow to moderately deep tropical waters, often associated with coral reef environments.
Size: approx 7-9 cm long (2.75-3.5 inches)
