At The Seaside No1 – original painting

Description

This original painting entitled ‘At the Seaside’ by David Raine is the first in a series of paintings that aim to develop the dreamy quality of deckchair colours and beach hut life.

This painting whispers of seaside dreams, a gentle homage to sun-drenched days by the sea. Let your imagination drift and picture the sweet swirl of ice cream, the airy fluff of candy floss and the distant cries of seagulls gliding overhead.

Imagine as you step from your chair the wind lightly whipping your hair as your toes slowly sink into the crisp golden sand as you make your way to the lapping shoreline.

The viewer is invited, as if in a daydream, to fill in the details within their mind to this delightfully undefined scene. Try adding a boat to the horizon perhaps or maybe walkers on the beach, for this is a place for quiet reverie, a space to breathe, to wander, to dream.

I’m seeking to be as minimalist as possible – beach, sea, clouds and nothing else says David. I love the English Channel skies and see them a bit like the Impressionists did in Boulogne in the 1890’s,

David’s love affair with the coast and sea developed from early childhood; with salt in his blood, it’s a theme that courses through much of his work.

Living in Cornwall, David produces a range of products that include table lamps, mirrors, small furniture pieces and paintings that represent the very essence of the shoreline.

When I was seventeen, I hitch-hiked to St Ives and bought a fisherman’s/painters smock, had half a pint in the Sloop Inn whilst looking out over the harbour, blinked into the midsummer sun glaring across the turquoise sea and fantasised that I was a painter.

How easy dreams start! At that time I sailed a 10.6’ dinghy on the Bristol Channel, now after all these years, I sail an 11’ foot dinghy on the Helford River estuary in Cornwall. Who cares if it’s only a smidgen of progress in sixty years?

This original painting is painted in acrylic on canvas, the work is unframed, but is ready to hang.
