Ammonite - Fused Glass Dish
Pretty sea-foam like bubbles and a simple Ammonite design feature on this beautiful fused glass dish by Kevin Litchfield.
Reflecting light from all angles and sparkling in the sunlight, the dish would be great for keeping shells collected from the beach or as a handy home for your keys or jewellery.
Each dish is made by first applying Sea Foam Blue to a single layer of clear art glass, before receiving the Ammonite design which is painstakingly cut from copper foil by hand and then sealed using a second layer of glass.
Once in the kiln the pieces are fired and fused together during a preset schedule in which the copper turns a lovely bronze colour and tiny bubbles begin to form.
Once cooled the piece is cleaned and checked before being fired again over a mould where it takes its form and cooled at a preset rate to anneal and toughen.
Each dish is individually handmade at Kevin’s home studio using only fully tested quality art glass.
Kevin’s main occupation over the last 33 years has been as a Creative Clockmaker where he has worked on some incredible features adorning buildings throughout the world.
The sea has always had an influence on me since my childhood says Kevin and this with my fascination with glass has encouraged me to build on my glass making skills in recent years.
Each dish has little protective rubber feet to protect itself and the surface it sits upon.
Please note: Due to the individual processes involve each dish is completely unique, although following the same design, no two are exactly alike.
