African Turbo

Abundant in South Africa sub-tidal waters on rocky shores, this rich brown and orange shell has been partly polished back to reveal flecks of pinkish mother of pearl beneath.

Many species of shell reveal an amazing array of glistening colours once the outer layers have been removed and polished.

Turbo shells (turbininae) are a large family of some several hundred species. Most dwell in the shallow waters of warm tropical seas.

As one might expect from a natural product these hand polished shells will each reveal differing patternation.
